I sold my 1100 Classic a few months ago, and have been looking at the 2008 & 2009 Raiders.

What year did Yamaha begin building the Raider?

I want to learn more about this bike. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure 2008 was the first year. It was Yamaha's answer to the Harley Rocker (or vice versa). Haven't heard anyone complain about it except some people don't care for the aesthetics.

2008 was the first year. 2008's have a reversed tread Metzeler 210 that was less than desirable (mismanufactured tire). Not a huge deal for most since they just upgraded to the Avon, Metzeler, or Dunlop 240's that everyone thinks should have come with the bike anyway. Some 2008's also came from the factory with crossed coil wires (5 min to fix) but if unfixed it won't produce the same power.

The 2009's have had some (a small percentage) lifter problems. Supposedly yamaha received a bad batch of parts...its a known problem and as long as noticed in during the warrenty they fix it for free. i would suggest all 09 owners have theirs checked just in case.

    No news on the 2010's.

Overall I think most are very happy with their rides...even they guys that have had a lifter problem. As others have stated...its the best power cruiser around for the money and has some major braggin rights.

I am one of the unlucky ones to have lifter problems with my '09. First time at 500 miles... bike was down for two weeks to replace one lifter. Second time is now and it has been down since October 29th... with no end in sight. The situation is inexcusable, in my opinion. If motorcyles were covered under FL's lemon law... this one would be a gold plated lemon.

When (if) I get it back I will likely just sell it. Shame... it is a great bike when it runs... but this kind of treatment of the owner of a new premium bike outs Yamaha clearly in the middle of the "bush league".

Without a doubt the best available. Take if for a ride and you will be lost, as we all were.

(And yes, 2008 was the first year of build for this fantastic custom cruiser)

it is by far the best bike you can buy for the money

Perhaps but that doesn't mean the design of the Rocker wasn't started first. Yamaha may have hadn advanced knowledge.

That's always a matter of preference, but for me it was a no brainer. I wanted the better of the 2 bikes, the most comfy, powerful, lighter and better handling of the two, with the best brakes and reliability and styling. So the Rocker never stood a chance at all. No regrets and no looking back! Raider's rock and Rocker's blow.

Raider, Furry, Rocker, I am not going to bash any bikes, but the Raider, to me is the best bang for the buck, I have rode the rocker c , no way the power are the handling of the Raider... It is just what you want to spend and what you like.....
