I have a 650 and want to move up. 1100, 1300 or 1600. I would want a 2002-2004. Give me your opinion on which way I should go.
My only suggestion is to try them out and see which one fits you best and what you can handle and afford. They are all good bikes.
Well my totally bias opinion is go with the 1100 classic silverado
I moved up from a 535 Virago. I'm glad I didn't go bigger then the 1100.
But then I am a 5'6" woman.
I use the trip meter too. A lot of my riding is to and from work, 35 miles each way. I usually fill up between 130-140. Once in a while I'll let it hit reserve just to gage things since the bike is still fairly new. For example, my very first tank I hit 128 before needing reserve. Knowing that the engine was still being broken in I knew that would increase...and it did, to 140, then 148. Last time I checked I was up to 154 and still hadn't hit reserve but I knew I would need gas the next morning so I just filled it up. Don't be afraid to hit the reserve every now and again just to see how far you can go. Its a good way to gage yourself.
Put an air kit and pipes on the 1100 and it will be everything you need
I can only suggest that you take your time and ride as many different bikes as your local dealer will allow. Look for people selling bikes and ask if you can try them.
Bikes are very different from one another.
If I had spent more time on my 1100 before buying it, I probably would have gone with something else.
Don't get me wrong, I like my 1100 Classic okay but in retrospect I should have held out until I really found the bike I loved. I wish also that I had tried out a VMax.
If it weren't for this message board I would have sold my bike long ago. Vibrations and noises, poor oil filter placement.
Just try everything and think hard before you buy. Remember, you are in a Vstar forum asking this question. There's a little bias here.
I bought mine 2 months ago and I like it. I did not ride anything else besides my friend's 1400 Harley [5 minutes] and that felt too big. I don't commute on the bike just riding for fun. And you probably asking that questions on wrong forum. People here love their bikes. The stock seat gets uncomfortable on rides longer than 1.5 hour. As far as oil changes I'm looking at installing a ORK kit on next service so filter placement should not be an issue on next oil changes.
