After numerous months of research and frustration on popping on deceleration Im asking the crowd on your verdict.
What is a deep toned exhaust (cliche Harley sound) that you find A1.
    Cobra,V+H,PCS ,hardchrome,roadhouse,etc.
Currently have v+h slippons, there ok except for POPPING on deceleration and dont have enough deepness.
Reading thru posts short shots seem to be better to what I understand but I dont want to wake up the dead,v+h slippons are loud enough.
Ive gone to the site to compare manufacturers of pipes to find its limited to 1-3 reviews per exhaust system.
Honest good feedback for me would be appreciated as I feel ive wasted my money so far on the v+h slippons.
    Thanks guys..........

Honestly? They are all pretty damn good pipes. I think we all have in mind a "finished" look for our bikes. For me, having something that is as different as possible that leans to the "bad ass" side of things is the look I'm going for. The PCS ThugStars work perfectly for me. they are LOUD and look like no other pipe on the market. (Look at the cover of the current J&P Cycles Metric Cruiser catalog, yup--it's a ThugStar on a V Star 1100 and they don't even sell them). Aftermarket pipes are all so darn close that it's hard to tell them apart unless you are 2 feet away. Very few people are schooled enough to even know the difference.

So with that said, try to form an image of EXACTLY what YOU are looking for in the end product. THEN shop around for something that fits what you want. You'll narrow your choices and that will make it MUCH easier. If you can't quite decide? I'd suggest waiting until you see something that really knocks your socks off.

    Thanks for listening....

I recently went through the process of selecting an exhaust for my 2008 custom. I chose a 2-into-1 but, when I asked around, several technicians told me that the longer, larger-diameter pipes will deliver the deepest tone. The 2-into-1 is a different sound - not the cliche thumpa-thumpa sound people normally associate with V-twins.

Cobra makes a model or two that are long and large (and not terribly expensive), but the Hard Kromes look the best, IMHO. I have Vance & Hines cruzers on my Marauder and they are LOUD and rather obnoxious if you ask me. The idle sound is very deep and "ballsy" but once underway it sounds kinda tinny. I think this is mostly because the cruzers are short pipes. If you have an opportunityto do so, go to a bike event in your area to listen to some other V-Stars when you have the chance.

Good luck in your search for great sound!

I'm in the same boat as Demon, shopping around for new pipes. I like the look of the Cobra Lo-Boy Shotguns. I was also looking at the Cobra Speedster Longs, which appear identical. Anyone have the Lo-Boy's or Speedster Longs? What is the difference between the two, other than about $125. This is the look I'm going for, but am curious to see how they sound. Also, what jet kit did you get to prevent blueing? Hope this helps you out too, Demon.

I personally think if you went with a two into one pipe you are gonna get the best sound and not wake the neighbors. I like the cobra 2 into 1 pro pipe HP, I have heard it on several bikes and I think it sounds DEEP and MEATY.

I have the 2 into one Hardchrome sideburners and they have a very deep sound. I constantly have people comment on how good the bike sounds.

I use Cobra LowBoy Shoguns - great sound - as for popping, still have some but without mufflers you have to expect a little back rap as we used to call it back in the day.

Great feedback and thanks to all.
currently looking at the Hard Krome 2into 1 or Cobra 2into 1.
Does anyone have an opinion on these 2 sets as im going from V+H slippons to a 2 in 1,want a beefier rumble without the popping on deceleration,or should I go to another exhaust system.
The more research you do the more confusing it gets.
    thanks

I feel your pain. I nearly pulled my hair out trying to decide which pipe to get. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Hard Krome Sideburner, but I talked to a couple of technicians who both said that they were real loud. Since I didn't want "real loud", but just more rumble and power, I went with the Cobra. It also helped that I was able to get the Cobra for almost $250 less. I spent that money on an ORK instead, and still had a little left for some ISO grips.

I was a little worried at first that the Cobra pipe might not be that good in terms of quality, but it is every bit as good as my Vance & Hines pipes on my other bike. It is not a true double-wall pipe, which is a drawback to some, but it comes with full-coverage heat shields so you really don't notice it unless you're looking for it. If mine was a show or project bike I might have spent the extra money on the HK, but this is my daily rider, and I am happy with the Cobra so far (it's only been on there for about three weeks and 600 miles). The sound is excellent - just what I wanted - a low, deep rumble at idle and just off idle. It really barks if you jump on it and has a raspy growl when you drop the throttle between gears. I have no popping either - at least not that I can hear from the saddle, and the baffle is removable if you ever want to alter the sound.

Go to pacificcoaststar.com and listen to thier 2 into1 exhaust. this is what I run along with the long baffle. and it gets me a lot of compliment and comments on my bike. people really like the sound. They can't believe that they are hearing a v star and not a harley. I have the monster pro pipe, thunder charger, PCS cams and dynajet stage 3 kit 2 1/2 turns PMS and Dyno better than 80 hp.cams make the world go round.
