I have a 2001 1100 v star with 9340 miles on it, since I got it out this year it will not idle even with the choke on after sitting for a few days. After it warms up the idle comes back to normal and when I turn the key on the fuel pump makes noise when reaching full pressure (which doesnt happen when its warm). I have cleaned out the carbs and found no dirt inside, I put new gas in the bike and it still does the same thing.Does anybody know how to test the output of the fuel pump? I will be changing the fuel filter this week to see if that helps at all, any other suggestions would be appriciated.

I would start by putting a battery charger on trickle charge over night. your batt might be just a little low on charge. and I would add some sea foam to the tank and run the bike around the block a few times and then park it for a day or two. that sea foam works wonders on stuff in the carbs that you cant see. our 1100 this year had a stuck float and the gas would just pour out on the floor of the garage. I just put some sea foam in it and left it for two days, went out to start it and I gave the side of the carb a little tap with the handle of a screwdriver and all was good. took it around the block and it ran like new. this may not help with your problem but its a good place to start. and if you took the carbs apart then Im sure you know of the low idle mix screw on the bottom of the carb. this may have been bumped at one time. I try to check all the easy stuff first before I start to take things apart only because I know my luck. I could take the whole damm thing apart and then see that the pet cock was shut off.

First off welcome to the forum. When you have a min, please go to the who are you section and introduce yourself so we can get to know you better.

As for your problem, changing the fuel filter is a very good idea. I would also put about a 1/3 of a bottle of Sea Foam in there to help clean out the fuel system. The stuff is like magic for your type of problem. If your not familiar with it, it is avail at Walmart or any auto parts place.

Clean out the fuel system, adjust the idle, and sync. the carbs. Make sure the air cleaner and plugs are good.

I've noticed that if you have the fuel valve set to off, the pump will act up, but is the valve is set to on, prior to starting, the pump is fine. I noticed this first when I played with my carbs to sync, the pump starting clicking. AFter I put the tank back on and took it for a ride, the pump was fine again.
I believe the pump needed that extra gas in the line to register correctly.
