I just did the valve adjustment but didn't know that I was to do a TPS adjustment too.

Anyone have a manual for this?

Trying to measure this stuff out I bought a VOM meter with tach meter. The only thing I could find in this city was one for car at 4 cyl smallest and 2 ohm powers.

Something doesn't seem right though. Measured my tach and I get between 28-35 on the 4 cyl, so times ten would be 280-350 divided by half for the twin or 2 cyl would be 140-175. Shouldn't it be 1400 or 1750?

Also, how do you keep the bike running once you take the position sensor off, it turns the engine off also?

The TPS guide doesn't work for me.

When I disconnect the cable under the seat and use the pins, once disconnected the bike shuts off.

So I guess it is off with the tank again, 5-6th time now.

I do not believe the bike should be running when checking the TPS values. The setting of the idle to 1000 rpm's is simply to insure the throttle is in the proper position when you take the throttle closed reading. Unless I am mistaken... set the idle, shut off bike, insert pins in TPS plug (to access w/ alligator clips), check reading with throttle closed-compare to spec. , check reading with throttle open-compare to spec. I'm not sure about yout tach. readings. Good luck!

I got the TPS correct, but I was concerned with the idle, my reading can't be correct.

TPS is in range of what the manual says, so I only can assume the idle is close to be correct.

on the 4 cyl scale I got reading of 28-35 or so, book says multiple by 10 so 280-350. So now I wonder if I should double that number for a 2 cyl engine of half that number.
    So confused.

How about sound clips of the vstar stock idleing at 1000 rpms?

    hi kingStar,
    Again,,Clymer!

And, the bike should not be running when checking ohmage of the TPS. If you get voltage while checking ohmage, your ohmmeter is SHOT!..KAPOW!

Yeah I figure that out when I unclipped the cables the bike shut down.
I have since fixed it and the knocking is gone, much improved after the valve adjustment too.
