My C50 ,which was EFI, had a tip over sensor that shut the engine off automatically if it was dropped.

Is the '05 Classic equipped with a similar feature?

    Thanks!

I know my 07 650 does not so I would be shocked if the 05 1100 did.

I don't know if it has a sensor, but when I laid mine down it did shut off. It is possible that I just stalled it on 2nd gear.

The carbs on the 1100 (like probably all other carbureted bikes) are designed to function ONLY when they are right-side up. So, in a tipover, the fuel in the bowls runs away from the jets and the motor will stop - no sensors needed. Although it may be possible for the engine to continue running for a few seconds, it won't run for long on its side. Even if it did, the oil pressure would probably drop to zero, and things would (literally) grind to a halt.

I believe 06 and later 1100's have fuel shut off solenoids on the carbs....

They do, but those are to protect the catalyst in the exhaust system - to my knowledge, they stay open as long as the key is on. I could be wrong on that. My bike doesn't have the solenoids any more, and thus far (knock on wood), I haven't had my bike tipped over - at least not while I was riding it.
