Sticky Idle Solution

Have your tried lubricating your cables?

    Seriously!

I just sprayed a boat load of WD-40 into both ends of my cables at the carb and near the top of throttle. I did however move them a bit under the tank for better clearance.

Whatever it was I think it worked.
Took the "rat" to the gym tonight, at stops or slowing no sticky idle. In fact it ran better then ever.

I also adjusted the throttle cable per spec, it was wayyy too tight before, but I didn't know that then.

    Try to lube your cables.

I do that every fall before I put my bike away.

Glad I'm getting on the right track here.

I can't believe no one brought that up before hand.

I think I have read every reply on this forum about a sticky idle and everyone either has mentioned an air leak or cable getting cramped.
No one mentioned, "Have you lubricated them yet?"

That would have helped the first 4 times I took the tank off to figure this problem out.

I hope someone else can benefit from yet another suggestion (this suggestion) in the future.

I never thought of it either, but I had an old Goldwing that had sticky cables but it never affected the idle. I didn't alway spring back when you laid of the throtle. Good to hear you are getting it running nice, you'll be an expert by the time you have gone through the bike.

Oh I know about the learning.
    Thanks

I've only been 100 miles on this so far between test rides, showing my friends and trips here and then testing it out and I already feel like this is machine is a naughty secretary going all in on the first date.

Next stop is the ice cream parlor and chocolate sundaes, or in my case the rear gear oil drain and exchange and oil change with filter.

Personally I have found a product called "Breakfree" made for firearms to be a wonderlube for cables. I like it much better than Wd 40.,L.B.

Glad you were able tofix your problem AND that you posted. I am experiencing high idle and came here to see if there is a fix before I went to repair shop. Thanks!

Never get to the repair shop if you can figure it out. I have down about 1000 so far in work on my own for about 100 in new tools. Bike runs 90% better then it did. It will even hit 70+ now which it wouldn't before at all.

Still want to re-jet in the future though.
