Spoke Wheels

I was looking at a gallery of V*1100s and I noticed that it seemed that bikes 2003 and older had spoked wheels. I have been trying to find spoke wheels for my 05 Silverado without any luck. Can't order them from Yamaha, can't find any after market either. Does anyone out there have spoke wheels for their V* that is newer than 2003. I'm guessing that there may have been a wheel size change and that's why not direct from Yamaha, but I thought someone would make after market wheels.

I have spoked wheels on my 2008 1100 custom (wish I didn't since they are a bitch to clean).

Spoke wheels on my 05 midnight custom. Just as soon have the mags, pain to clean and require tubes for tires.

Hey just to give you guys a headsup. I just bought a 1100 Custom Midnight Special and it has the spoke wheels as well. Not too fond of them but talking to the Yamaha shop they said that the mag wheels off the Silverado model will not fit on the custom and vice versa. May want to check with a tech before you go buying wheels that won't work

The wheels on the Custom are spoked - always have been, I believe. The Mags are on the Classic and Silverado, and they are a different size up front, which is why you can't interchange them (the forks on the custom are different from the other two variations). I wish I could find good mags for my custom, as well, because I hate laced wheels (too danged hard to clean).

Thats right, the Custom has laced rims and the classics have alloy rims. i would imagine the rear tires are interchangable, but the front wheels are different sizes and profile, and will not work at all.

And that really sucks and is completely wrongheaded thinking by Yamaha, IMO. They really missed on this one. I ask you, WHAT is the classic look for rims on a bike? Sure as h&ll isn't alloy rims! I would LOVE to have laced rims on my '05 Classic, even with the extra cleaning effort! I think the alloys look completely wrong.

AMEN, Brother!!! Who in THE World would expect a "Classic" to have modern wheels of advanced alloy construction?

If it was as simple as switching them, I'd trade you in a heartbeat!

As it is, I am going to have to save up a TON of money to buy some after-market mags! The only reason I can fathom is that they (Yamaha) wanted the custom to be less money than the classic, and that was how they did it.

I like my spokes but they don't shine up too well anymore. The rim itself cleans up to a mirror shine but not the spokes. I was considering masking off the rim and painting just the spokes gloss black. Any thoughts?

I totally agree with you guys! The laced should have been on the Classic and the Custom should of come with mags!

I know there are some companies out there who will re-lace your wheels with high-polish stainless spokes for a nominal fee of a few hundred bucks. That might be an option for you. Really, it wouldn't be quite so bad if there was only one brake disc up front. As it is, someone at Yamaha should be evaluated psychiatrically for putting dual discs on a laced wheel.
