I had the same idea. Put something soft UNDER the shifter pedal.

Great idea. Of course you could invent a boot condom which would certainly prove beneficial if you had to kick a cager in the butt!!

You could coordiNade your boot condom with the outfit of the day and save the wear and maybe the tear.

Not recommended for prevention of disease or children.

I ve had various prototypes in the past and the problem with it being too soft is when you downshift it sustains damage from the rough side of the soul of your boot....

Won't any of the standard peg covers work for you, Like Kury's or even the nicer custom peg covers like what we make??

As for a shifter condom, they make them, I have seen them at Iron Pony, my impression is that they are more for the sport/standar style bikes with the metal shift peg, but could possibly work for your problem.

I just ordered a replacement cover ($2 + and $6+ for shipping). The old one had worn thin on the out side exposing the end of the shaft. That is where all the scratching and dimpling was coming from.

Thats cool, the replacement OEM rubber boots are cheap, the shipping kills ya, and at least around here the Dealers never have them in stock LOL

You must have some seriously Coarse soles on your shoes to wear that rubber out LOL

Here is the shifter "condom" I mentioned above, I saw at the Iron Pony

Looks to me like the thing that goes IN to a condom.

I'm sure it works but I can just hear the comments now.

I have only had the bike for about two months and someone beat me to wearing out the the rubber cover. The replacement appears to be a genuine oem so now I got to figure out how to install it. Cut the old cover off and push hard I guess.

Yeah cut the old cover off. As for the new one, depending on how pliable it is now (which I would bet that it is more on the hard side) you may want to "Carefully put it in the oven around 100 degrees for a bit to soften it a little. Just a thought

Thanks Dawg. Good idea. Oven would probably better than the microwave.

I can't seem to get the heel/toe shifter out of my mind. I rode a buddy's Yamaha with that standard feature and I liked it a lot. I know some Yammies came with a heel/toe feature but I don't know what kind of engineering would be required to adapt it to my Virago.
