Serious brake issue

When riding home yesterday, I stopped for bread, after 3 minutes in the store I returned to the bike to find the front brake very tight. This resulted in their being some resisitance (drag) on the front brake. I was a mile from the house so decided to ride it home for a once over. About .25 mile later had to pull over as the drag became signifacant. When I stopped, both front pads were slightly smoking. I loosened the front brake lever tensioner screw and relieved all the pressure. Now I can't get it to do it again.

Has anyone had their front braking system "vapor lock" on them?

What was the cause and remedy?

Thanks for the help ya'll !!

My best guess is the master cylinder has malfunctioned. A valve or plunger sticking, not letting the brake fluid return to the reservoir. Maybe some moisture?

This is my thought, as well. Although, I've seen faulty hoses cause calipers to stick on cars, and there is that little splitter thing up under the headlight. There might be a moving part or two in that assembly - to provide pressure balance between the two discs. I'd say you probably need to (at least) flush the whole deal real well with fresh brake fluid, but it may be too late for that. When corrosion sets in, you pretty much have to replace or rebuild.

For what it's worth, I doubt you have "vapor lock". Any gaseous contaminants (air bubbles) in a hydraulic brake system will cause complete loss of braking - not what you experienced.

I would think either a collapsing hose or dirt/grime in the piston bore on the caliper. Or possibly just corroded slider pins. I would start by pulling the calipers and inspecting and cleaning/lubing the slider pins. If that doesn't cure the problem I would suspect a hose next. Just my 2 cents.,L.B.
