Hello to my fellow Raider Owners.

I just got my new raider home - "S" model in Red. Picked it up today. Took the wife out for a ride and she loved the bike but I think she'd like a back rest. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of the quick release backrest offered by Yamaha. Does it connect directly to the bike while not changing the appearance when it's taken off??????

I bought the Yammy Quick release backrest so I could take it off. After I put it on, I like it better with it on than off. when it is off, you have the mount lugs showing. I think it looks better on. Just my .02

The new backrest looks great, I bought the small riser and my wife loves it. Easy to install with the new bolts and wheels provided. If the backrest is removed you see the wheels/bolts of the assembly. A little tacky but OK

    Thanks for the responses.

I don't suppose someone could post a photo of these "Bolts and Wheels". This way I could decide if I want to get on line to wait for one.

I'd like to see that too, and did someone say the quick release mounting hardware is incompatible with ghost brackets?

yes quick release backrest is incompatable with ghost brackets for now i sent ghost brackets pics and dimensions so there are working on one. for those of you locking for the backrest the dealer i bought the bike from had them in stock and i had it on the same day.
seminol power sports in sanford fl they might have more.

i like my backrest on better than off it just looks better my 2 cents

I have the long Quick Release. Wifey is much happier. Mine rattles a bit when the backrest is off. I have to admit, I was more impressed with the look with the backrest on then I thought. I still prefer it off though. It is very easy to get on and off. I will try and get a couple of pictures when I get home. This is the first day in 3 weeks that I have not ridden it. Gonna rain. Gotta love Colorado riding weather.

STILL waiting on a freaking backrest.....dealer said today Yamaha told him they're coming thru 4-6 at a crack......I called Yamaha direct this morning and got old 557 on backorder and NO estimated ETA...dealer has had 3 backordered since Feb and beyond.....waaayyyy to go Yamaha...

Take this for what it is worth...talked to Yamaha today to share my displeasure about waiting for a backrest for 5 months now. I was told the following info.

They currently have 473 backrests on backorder. They are scheduled to receive 1000 units from their vendor by mid August. So theoretically, all orders should be filled by the end of August. I guess we will have to wait and see if they come through on that.

I compaired the looks of the cobra with the yamaha sissy bars and the cobra is way more clean looking! I had the yamaha set ordered and it was gonna cost me over $450. I cancled it and ordered the cobra. I know the cobra is not quick release but 10minutes of work to either put it on or take it off is not bad and it cost half as much as the yamaha! Also the cobra is higher and just all around better looking and more functional.

I have been leaning towards that option. Has anyone had any problems with the quality of the Cobra backrests. I have gotten sub par stuff from them before, and swore I would never by cobra products again. Fill me in if you have the Cobra backrest please!

I have the Cobra standard sissy bar and so far I have no complaints. The old lady likes it and that's all that matters.(when she's happy, she makes me happy. wink nudge)

One of the bolts rattled loose once but that was my fault. loctite loctite loctite

so are saying that you need locktite just to mount this thing? I only want it on for trips and off when I get there.

If you were going to leave it on permanently then yes, loctite. But if youre only going to run it briefly then it should be fine. I leave mine on all the time so after about a month I lost a bolt. (and i ride everyday) BTW, I suggest calling whoever you order from. I initially ordered a different bar and it was on backorder, so I logged onto the website while I was on the phone and just picked what they had in stock.

noodle...you have a picture and P/N of that backrest? Just didn't like the idea of the Cobra as I didn't think the flat chromed stock would look right with the contours of the rear of the bike....perhaps I'm mistaken......at any rate $450 sounds better than the $550 I got told for the 4 pcs from my dealer, but if I could find something that looks decent for half that I'd sure be tempted to go for it!

Here is some pictures of my Raider with the standard Cobra sissybar. The rack has a 10 lb. limit. Which I think that is BS. It is made out of some pretty sturdy steel.

I put the Cobra tall backrest and formed luggage rack on last week. I'm very pleased with the quality and the comfort it provides the passenger. I got the skull insert which I feel dresses it up a bit. Sorry no pics at this time. I'm refurbishing a house I just bought so I can stop paying rent.

Boy, we should have a rule here that you cannot tell us about anything new without photos. This is just wrong an not considerate of the rest of us
