does anyone know if your oil light will come on if there is too much oil in the crankcase.
My oil light is on and I added oil thinking I needed it, But it didn't need any after checking it through the sight glass.
any ideas?
Thank you
Hey Rjter,
The last shop I had my 1100 at overfilled my crankcase by about 2/3 of a beer can worth of oil. The oil light never came on. I wonder if your oil level sensor is defe
ctive.
Kinda sounds like it.
Two times, right after changing my oil, my light has come on when the bike was idling and sitting on the side stand. As soon as I stood it up, the light went out. Then, as soon as I set the bike back down on the side stand, the light went on again. I am not sure what this has to do (if anything) with the recent oil change, but it only ever happened right after - like the same day or the next day - never after a couple days.
I don't know if you have just changed your oil, but you might be experiencing the same thing as me. I've read here that an air bubble can form in ths sensor, causing a false reading. If this is the case, I am not sure how one goes about purging the air, but mine seems to work itself out on its own. Since the warning lamp is connected to an oil level sensor (not a pressure sensor), and I can clearly see that I have enough oil in ths sump, I really don't worry about it - it goes away on its own anyway.
yes it will,,,if to much oil,,it puts more pressure inthe case,,and pushes the float sensor in the switch, down,,as if it needs oil,,i like to run on the lower side than the upper on sight glass
bkman, I'm glad you added your post about the "post-oil change" oil light! Mine did that this time too exactly as you described it. Only did it once thought and hasn't returned.
