How many miles can you expect out of a v star if you perform proper maintenance?

    Thanks

Well for the most part they are still going, this is 10th anniversary for most of the north american bikes, 11 for the overseas models. Most guys are seeing upwards of 100,000 miles on a meticulously maintained and well riden scoot. Even a given moderately hard riding habits but good maintenance 80,000 can be expected.

I have close to 12,000 on my 2004 650 custom. I figured I would get around 35,000, but had no ideal I would get 80,000. Looks like I can suit it to my taste a little more.

o.O 35,000 miles? oh dear. I bought my '08 last year and clocked just short of 7000 miles on it last season. I've done some mods, but can't fathom it not lasting me for some years to come with proper maintenance. I wouldn't have bought a motorcycle if I only thought I'd get 35k out of it. I'm pretty sure the maintenace schedule in the owner's manual extends out well passed that, also.

I have a buddy that has the old Yamaha 650 that has 53,000+ miles on it. The bike rides great and runs great too.

He rides it everyday during warm weather to work and on errons. He says he is hoping to get 100k out of it.

different bike from what we are riding but on the same page as your post, but I had a guy that i used to work with that saw my bike and told me about the old Yamaha 650 Special that he had when he got out of the military and he couldnt say enough good things about how durable and reliable that thing was. Yamaha definitely has a reputation for putting out decent bikes with these smaller cc engines. Mine only has about 10k on it as of now but it runs like a champ and starts up within 1-2 seconds of mashing the starter button every time i hit even if its been a couple of weeks in between starts. i kind of bought my V Star without much research just because i had bike fever and didnt look to far into anything other than price but after getting it and riding it and hearing other riders comments on what i have, I am 110% completely happy with my "little" star. i dont plan on getting rid of it even if i ever get another bike.
