Is AIS removal necessary when doing MAXAIR and pipes

    HI,

I just left the motorcycle shop and ordered a MAXAIR preditor air kit, Cobra lo-boy full exhaust, AIS removal and PERFORM oil filter relocation kit. After I left, I got to thinking; currently the bike pops on the decelleration, and I was told that was because it has slip ons instead of the full stock exhaust and no re-jetting was done. I was told the fix to that problem was to remove the AIS.

Now that I am going to have a MAXAIR kit installed, as well as a full exhaust, is it going to be necessary to remove the AIS, and if so for what reason?

I just had the MaxAir Predator air kit and Cobra Slashdown pipes installed on my 2005 Vstar 1100 Silverado and did not have to have the AIS de-installed. I get minimal poping, and no other out of the ordinary things.

To add to this, will a rejet be required with the Max air and slip ons?

Your bike is already set lean to pass emissions from the factory. Adding an air kit you are making it even more lean. I would strongly suggest jetting to get the best performance out of your engine. You are letting in more air, now you need more fuel!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention. No you don't need to remove the AIS, but you will be happier if you do. Get rid of that annoying ticking.

    Hey,

Retlikhd asked if a rejet was needed when doing the kit,...I thought the maxair kit comes with jets for re-jetting. Am I wrong?

Also I was curious about the bike 05 V-star that just had it doen, how do you like it,..did oyu notice much difference???

Yes, anytime you change to allow greater air flow then you must make allowance for that difference in the A/F ratio.

No, not necessary........it is simply a matter of your preference.

I do like the mods I made.

First with the Cobra pipes make it sound like a real V-twin. The Maxair kit really smooths out the ride. I get much more power and speed out of it. 65 in 4th gear and there is still some left.

Just wanted to chime in behind Mike's post...

I just finished the install of a Maxair kit on my '05 Classic. IMO, this is the way to go. Lots more power than stock, and the bike makes beautiful music with my Cobra HP Pros. And by the way, my AIS is gone, too. I used the Baron's plugs (I don't recommend them), and that got rid of the popping I noticed on decel after I installed the pipes, and prior to installing the Maxair.
