Is installing a Baron tach on an '08 1100 Custom a difficult job for a "somewhat but not overly" mechanically-inclined person? The directions that come with it that are available on Baron's website make it sound pretty simple, but I would prefer hearing firsthand from customers.
Can't say for sure on the custom but it was as easy as it sounded on my classic. You should have no problems, if you run into any issues there are plenty of people here that can help you out.

Just follow the directions.... ask questions if you don't understand them. Should be relatively easy.
Just put a Pro-One on mine. two problems I had was that the holes on the tach plate didn't line up, had to get some Bikers Choice Risers. That lead to having to get new bolts for the risers, which lead to having to upsize the holes by .040 in the cable guide plate. Wiring colors were switched L for R on the coils but that shouldn't matter just used the right coil instead of the left, kept the same colors. Aside from trips to the store for bolts it went seamlessly together. The bolts were 1/2" x 13 and I used a 1/2" suicide countersink (no guide) to enlarge the holes. The countersink has more cutting edges that a drill and wont grab or chatter.
