roughrider, I can beat that one. I had to chat with a fine member of my community that complained because, every Sunday, right before church, the bells at the church rang, and "make her eyes shake"..... Mind you, this church has been there, chiming it's bells before services for over 50 years, and she has been living by the church for more than 5 years.... Not sure why it's suddenly a problem now, but she demanded I make them stop.
Someday, when all the oil runs out, our borders have fallen and the polar ice caps have melted there will be no structured laws and it will be perfectly legal to call these complainers out for a good ole fashion duel.

If you can live long enough...you will have your day! muahahahahahahahah(i say in evil fashion)

If nothing else, I'd be tempted to spend a WHOLE lot of time "cleaning and polishing" my bike.

My department posted an opening in the traffic division on a Monday. I came in to work that day and though "I've only been here a year and a half. They will never let me in yet." I called in to dispatch and told them I was on duty. They promptly sent me out into the police jurisdiction where some guy had moved back home from working at a car plant in Michigan for 30 years. He was complaining about the chickens crowing and making an "awful racket". I asked how long he had lived there. He told me that he had just built and moved in last month. I asked him how long the chickens had been there and were they there when he bought the land. He said "well yes but...." I turned around got in my car, drove straight back to city hall and typed a letter requesting to be reassigned to the traffic division.
I have another about barking dogs that I can't claim credit to, but I hate it when people cant just live around each other.

Hey Sushi- as you know, developers LOVE to give their devopements cutesy names, and you did say most of the tenants were old single women,.... I wonder if you live in "HAG HARBOR"?

I hate to be a spoiled sport, but......

{rant} "Did you read the by-laws BEFORE you purchased?"

I mean that would you buy a car before looking at warranty and spec's?

I live in a condo, and am on the board of directors. We have lots of people that are given rules and agree, then after they buy don't want to comply and complain all the time.

We use to allow dogs, but members would not clean up after the dogs and I hate to step on $*** on my patio (I do not have a dog). So the bad owners ruined it for the ones that followed the rules. Now we have No dog rule, with $100 fine per month if you get one until you get rid of it (it holds up in court too)

I think your condo association is a little too strict, but my point is that you agreed to follow their rules when you bought the unit.

    Just like joining the military you "waved your rights" {rant off}

Having said that, I am surprised that they have rules on working on in home, but I bet it is due to someone in the past drove a bike INTO the unit. Again a bad owner in the past screwed you over.

I bet they had people doing oil changes and leaving messes or Coolant flush and spilling all over driveway that is why the rules.

    On a side note....

A co-worker got his neighbor arrested for being a peeping tom for looking in his windows and turning him into his association. Guy got a $500 fine and warned to stop looking into windows, lol

So what about those owners who had a dog before the board decided to change the laws?

I agree a lot of folks don't pay attention to the by-laws. But a lot of associations try to enforce by-laws that are either not there or not applicable to the situation at hand.

ONe of the reasons I would never buy into an association. I rent my condo, but when purchase time comes, I'll get a house with no association. The thought that it is like joining the military and you "wave your rights" is absurd. You don't wave any rights. You agree to adhere to certain rules. Unless all your neighbors are HOAI (Home Owners Association Issued)

Trollpj you're right. I knew there were rules against working on vehicles, but the rules are written in legal-ese and this was my first home purchase. I did not understand that the rules went to this extreme on vehicle maintenance. I thought it was only "extraordinary" maintenance. At the time I also said to myself "Bah, I'm done wrenching on cars anyway." which turned out to be a B/S statement on my part.

I've learned a lot and if the economy ever turns around, I'll make a smarter move.

So what about those owners who had a dog before the board decided to change the laws?

We made it Clear that current owners needed proof of registered, all shots, etc and that if issues are caused buy their dog they have to get rid of it.

The way we got around it was the association made "Pets" renters to the owners since the owners used the excuse "The animal is my family" well like any family member the owner owns and family members are renters and the owner is responsible for their actions. If your child lives with you and is an adult, same thing.

Believe it or not when we got the city involved for registration and shots issue all most all the "Bad" owners dogs disappeared. The thing is that when the current dog passes on they CAN NOT replace the dog or be in violation. Only dogs that were present before the rule are allowed and each year the renewed license needs to be updated or the dog needs to removed.

Good owners are more than willing since they take care of the dog and all the required stuff was already done for 95% of the non-problem people.

But no new owners can have a dog.

Sorry for kinda being a dick, but from a person that helps run a 215 unit condo association I get both ends of the problems and really if people clean-up after themselves and kept the noise down 90% of the bogus rules could be avoided. The bad people ruin it for the good ones.

    BTW....

I did get my condo association to re-write the "No working on vehicles" rule at my unit to be limited. Not all working on, now you can do anything that does not involve removing major power train or fluid changes.

Our rules haven't been modified pretty much since they were written around 30 years ago. Want to know why? Because 65% or more, of the actual residents or their proxies must be physically present to conduct a vote. In this day and age, no one has the time or desire to attend these meetings. In fact, most residents usually just throw the notices from the HOA in the trash. On top of this, many of the units in my community are rented out. The notices go to the owners, not the renters. The owners don't live there, so unless a change is somehow going to affect them, they don't care and throw the notices in the trash also.

if 65% do not show up and throw away time to make a stand!

That is how I was able to change our LAWS!

I got proxy votes and was able to take control and change BS rules. The dog issue was the biggest issue the last 3 years.

    Get involved, get it fixed!

No one to blame but yourself if you do not get it fixed!

52 posts, Sushi. my God. It's unbelievable. I've been watching, reading, monitoring, and wondering. This thread is really getting rediculous. Move out, for Chrissake! If you hate where you live that much simply don't live there! You keep saying you can't afford to leave, but it seems to me you can't afford to stay there! Find an alternative! It can be done. Look bro, I ain't trying to beat you up but damn, yank yourself out of the mud. Don't die whining in your own tears. You are better than that. Prove it!

Lol..they aint' all mine. Like I said, I'm just hanging on until market conditions improve a little bit. It doesn't have to be the bubble that it was, but it has to stabilize, then I'll sell and move. I also need to be prudent because the company contract is up for re-bid. I'll know in June if I have a long-term job or not. That's just a few months away.

This is the rant section isn't it? No one has to read it.

    Sushi,
When you do make the move head on up to the mountains here in Frederick, great living, houses are reasonable, and most of all really good neighbors (if you can handle rednecks) we're harmless, sorta, and we have some really good riding up here.
    IF THE WEATHER EVER BREAKS.

I have to agree with ft38278 about the Frederick area. I lived in Columbia, Ellicott City, and Baltimore County for some time, then moved out to Frederick. Great riding is one thing, but it seems the people are much nicer than what i found in Howard County. Housing is much more reasonable too.
