I just finished installing the cobra speedster longs and the cobra FI2000cl and after the initial holy crap!i went for a ride and i thought i could smell fuel. I have it at the factory setting of 1-3-1 and the pipes are new but i have not modded the airbox... Is there a setting out there that you know so it doesnt run so rich? I also get the odd pop from 2nd gear, but not that bad just every once in a while. i only have ridden it for about a half hour after install but i did ride around town and get out on the highway. left the truck and fi2000 installation papers at my shop. cant stand the fuel smell. pls help.

I have the Cobra shorts and the FI2Kcl on factory settings and don't have any gas smell. I too have the occasional pop but that is only on high RPM hard decel.

Make sure the bottom joint on the pipes is sealing tight and there is no exhaust leak if there is you gotta fixer. I used a little copper silicone, also check the port gaskets and make sure they are not leaking. This can cause a rich mixture.

what is the best way to check these options?

Make sure the pipes are cold, start the bike and put your hand down by the joint. Trust me you will feel it...I also used my hand to check the ports or you can use water in a spray bottle. Check the ports first they get hot quick.

I had a leak with my roadhouse slip-ons, found it and it took care of a couple of issues. However, with any new pipes you get a buffet of smells for a couple of rides. Be prepared to smell anything from burning hydralic fluid to rancid tacos. Ride safe.

I have the same gas smell with the same fuel manager but I still have stock pipes and stock airbox, also the bike now idles really low (almost sounds like it's gonna go dead), does this make sense? Anyone have suggestions?

Let the bike warm up - then pull the air cleaner out - if that smooths out the idle, mod your airbox.

Same here, I don't have the gas smell anymore, I guess it just needed to get a few miles on it or something. Still plan to do the airbox mod one day this week!!

    djleriuz,

Uh-ooohhhh, there goes your gas mileage - ha! While the mod itself doesn't increase gas consumption, you'll probably find that the little twisty-thingy on the right side of your handlebars will now be rotating more often than before the mod was done. It does, though, make a nice difference in the overall performance and efficiency of our motor, ESPECIALLY when added to your new exhaust and Cobra FMS. Dyno results with those mods have shown a 20%+ increase in HP vs. stock. It doesn't mean you have to use it all, but it's also certainly nice to know you can. : )

    Enjoy.
