You'd think I would learn, but nooooooo...

I drove to Orlando and bought my first bike -- a 1998 650 Classic. Really nice looking, and reasonably low miles (17,500.) Well, the guy that was selling it had left the windshield at his place of employment. "No problem," I said "just mail it to me." The guy seemed like a good guy, but I haven't seen the windshield in 3 weeks, and now he doesn't answer email or phone...

When will I ever learn?!?!?! I feel like such an idiot when I trust someone and get burned.

Which weekend would you like some company while you ride up to visit him?

    Okay, that made me chuckle.

If I only learned one thing during my year in Iraq, it's to not get too bent out of shape on the stuff that really isn't huge. What pisses me off more than anything is that my trust was betrayed. Don't get me wrong, I'm pissed that I don't have the windshield, but the betrayal of trust is worse.

you can pick one up reasonable or just ride without one...I do!

Yeah, but I'm trying to keep costs below my wife's radar. ;-)

The other thing is that I'm not sure what kind was on it. There's a bracket on the front of the bike that I assume was to mount the windshield, but I don't know what replacement to get. I guess I could always change the mounting hardware, though... I'm already reading through the forum for recommendations.

Here's a recomendation...grab some riding buddies and drive up to the guys house. Call him a day or so before and say have it ready the guys and you are comming to pick it up. A group pickup might motivate the man to have it ready for you.

The guy probably can't find it. You got a good deal on the bike regardless I would chalk it up to a cheap lesson learned.

Take the brackets off and ride without. It takes a bit of getting used to but once you do you'll hate bug screens. Windshields are for wussies anyway.

Yeah, that's probably what I'll do. I'd hate to waste 4 hours of drive time round-trip and STILL be empty-handed. Sometimes the frustration just isn't worth it, but this is the venting thread, right?

I'll work on my de-wussification too, but I also decided on a full-face helmet so it may take a while... ;-)

    I resemble that remark, Mikey.

Went to Street Vibrations in Carson City/Reno with a buddy who has a Fat Boy with no windshield. He's also about 10-12 years younger than me. We did about 325 miles that day - a lot of it at freeway speed. He borrowed my eye drops about 3 times...was absolutely worn out by the end of the day.

How can you call 4 hours on a bike a waist of time?

That would make me wonder why he left it at his work. I mean, I can see taking it off to go cruising on a nice day or two, but I wouldn't think of leaving it at work. Something's not right here...

I see by your avatar that you ride without one. For me, I don't like the taste of bugs. Down here, you can ride into a whole mess of lovebugs or stink bugs. They're a pain to be picking out of your teeth, too.

Pabi, as long as you don't have a windshield yet. Enjoy the ride.

Not having a windshield, deciding on a full-face helmet is a great idea. Cause when your face catches your first bug at 60 mph, with no windshield, you'll decide pretty quick which way you want to go.

Here it's June bugs. About the size of a quarter, and damned near as hard, it's like getting hit with a rubber bullet at 60 mph. And yes they do come in swarms, but usually at night.

The worst tho was back home in the prairies. You get clouds of these little no-see-ums. They have almost no mass when you are standing still but at speed it's like thousands of little needles. At least I haven't run into those stink bugs tho, they sound like they suck. Hope to find out this summer tho, our FLA trip is still on.

Got them all, plus bees. Bees really suck, I have had them under my shirt sleeve and gotten stung, hit the mirrors or grips = sticky honey all over your face and hand. Oh, and I have gotten a couple of black birds and a pheasant. I like the windshield.

I only ride with a windshield. Can't believe a fellow Canadian called me a wussie! Just kidding. To each their own. Ride safe.

If my windshield keeps me from ever getting another lit cigarette butt down my shirt, then, yes, I'm a wuss!!!

I ride without a windshield. I can see the benefit that one would provide, though. I wear a full face helmet, but the first time I caught a butterfly to the noggin I thought I hit a flying moose. lol I was very happy there was a piece of plexi between me and it. Regardless, I won't be purchasing one anytime soon. I love the wind and look without it way too much right now
