I've been seriously debating doing the exhaust mod to my 950.<ol style=\"list-style-type: decimal\">

  2. I know that I don't want to have a loud bike, so will it make it too loud? That said, I would like a little more sound.
  3. I have reservations because I will never be able to go back to stock!
  4. Will I also need to do the air box mod?
  5. What will doing these mods do to my YES warranty?
  6. Thanks for your input!

    1. Louder, but not full system or even slip on loud.
    2. The sound of punched pipes can be an acquired taste. Be sure you can live with it, even if you don't like it. Or be prepared to buy stock or aftermarket exhaust to fix it.
    3. No, if you are just punching the baffles.
    4. Exhaust will no longer be covered. See the thread on YES and the possible consequences of mods to the bike.

I cut the baffle out of mine a week or so ago and here is how I would describe the loudness. It is more than a little louder but no where near as loud as drag pipes or a lot of the Harley's. I would describe it as moderately loud. I had my son ride the bike past me at 60 MPH and the bike was not loud at all unless he was accelerating and it still wasn't obnoxious. You might find one of us on the forum that is close enough to you to go and hear it for yourself. I have no idea where you are but I'm in North Arkansas.

I have the exhaust mod done and would do it again in a heartbeat! The tone is decent and its not too loud, just loud enough that you can hear it running. In my personal opnion its better then the slip-on. I had the slip-on for about a week didnt care for the tone and went back to the exhaust mod. Heres another idea for you there is a pipe for sale in the hock shop buy it and see if ya like it, if ya dont you can go back to your unmodded pipe. If ya do like it and i think ya will you still have your unmoded pipe to slip back on if ya ever had any issues with anything and the best part is it only takes 5 mins to switch them out.

FYI, After a 1000 miles or so on my Cobra Slip On, it has gotten pretty loud. Almost too loud for me. I am usually listening to my MP3 Player so it dampens it some.

drilled my stock muffler when my bike had 20miles on it (2nd day). Now I just rolled 1200 miles. It recently seemed to get louder, but in a good way.

I was real hot to buy pipes, but now I decided the cobra slip on would be better for me (and my sleeping toddler). Since the muffler seems louder now, I am even debating leaving it alone. I will prob buy the slip on ($250 is cheap) and if it gets real loud i will just put the drilled stocker back on.

i'd reccomend drilling the stock muffler - just for safety. There is no way anything will hear you in stock form

My personal opinion is, the Modified Exhaust is best. Unless you want loud. I have a buddy who took my modified exhaust and when we ride together, his sounds good.

I did the exhaust mod and the air box mod and love the sound. My mpg dropped but Morg told me thats because I keep cranking it on cause I love the sound *lol* and not because of the mod's
Actually its just his fault I keep trying to keep up with him!

    fuzz,

do you have the baffle installed in your slip-on? i'd be impressed if the baffled cobra slip-on is louder than a drilled stock muffler.

i thought cobra made an optional baffle that makes the slip-on quieter? maybe that baffle is for the pipes only...

i will admit the drilled stock muffler sounds ok (not great) when i was out riding today.

regardless of the sound - the cobra muffler looks much better in my opinion than the plain jane stock muffler that every 950 has.

I didn't think the Slip On had interchangeable baffles. It is pretty much take what you get.
