does your bike start in first gear??

    mine wont........that has been the hassle with the hot engine stalling business...

    am calling the dealership tommorow to see if it will start for them in first...maybe that safety switch thingomabob is messed up........ha

    If your kick stand is down and bike in gear 1st, 2nd whatever it should not start. Harley solved this problem, they will star in gear, sidestand down and clutch out, but it's cool........

    i have had a hot engine stall in first, and bike does not want to start, kickstand up, clutch in .

    hopefully after i pick it up from the shop tommorow, it will all work the way it is supposto.......

    Hey zdarmom,
    Keep us posted, mine is still under warrantee and does the same thing on and off, I thought about attempting to disable the kickstand saftey thingy. Please let us know what up?

    i just bought a 2008 1100 classic and mine wont start unless i shift it into neutral. i stalled in a intersection and being a new rider i kinda freaked. im going to call the dealer because the book says it should start in gear with the clutch pulled.

    i took my bike in for the stalling/ issue with not starting unless in N. and issues with getting alittle jammed from 1st thru N to 2nd.

    they did a " clutch play adjustment" (inside, near the shifter) and increased the idle. we had already adjusted it once before they did it.......funny they sent me out from there with the idle too low........bike is heavy when it suddenly stalls!

    worked all weekend, picked it up thursday afternoon and it was a short ride, but seemed sweet .......will take her out and play in the next few days and make sure its all good now.........and YES it SHOULD start in first gear......

    yes its freaky, new bike stalling........etc............never had issues with my suzuki i rode for a few years.....thank god for experience!

    I've been riding motorcycles off an on for over 40 years, I still on occasion stall the bike in traffic. It happens to the best of us. These days you pull the clutch lever in hit the starter button and away you go. I remember the day if you stalled you first had to stop the bike, find neutral then start kicking her.

    LOL!....man I know what you mean, my dirt bike is that way and I stall it often. it's hard to look cool when you are trying to find a rock to stand on to get your bike running again.....

    update;
    picked up my bike last thursday........short ride home didnt have time to really RIDE......

    was like 100 here the last two days, so i took it out today, the issues with stalling and shifting seemed a zillion times improved, stopped for gas shut in down in first......

    clutch in, kickstand up NOTHING..........not a sound.............

    pulled into the dealership they made an adjustment at the handlebar/clutch and magically it started in first.........

    so i guess its easily corrected.......lets just hope it stays corrected............

    I noticed that my bike now will start in 1st with the clutch pulled in, only after its warmed up. Before it woulnt do it. Ive now have 250 miles of smiles on my 08. I was going to take it in but I think I will wait till my 600 mile check-up. Still trying to get used to the engine ticking, which I hear is somewhat normal in these fine beasts! Still love my ride!
