Ok guys, I have searched and searched for this thread but can't find what I am looking for here.
I have a 2002 1100 Classic with just over 32000. I recently replaced the oil, filter, exhaust grommets and balanced the engine and synced the carbs back 31500.
I noticed last night while riding with the ABATE group here, about 6 members last night...
A chirping sound, like little birdies stuck in the engine. Actually sounded like a bolt coming loose.
Now I first noticed this while I was in the back of the pack riding rear very slight sound. But when I was near the lead bike I noticed it a lot more.
I'm not sure if this was my motorcycle or our groups chopper with open belts.
As I broke off from the pack the sound went away, but I wanted to verify if there may be something I have missed on my machine to check out.
I have no mods but start of 3 hole mod done recently and AIS system is good and installed.
Did some looking last night and all seems fine so far, but going to look again and want to check my carb sync tonight.
Some thoughts
Thanks
When your in a pack, it is real hard to tell noises from your bike and others. Since it went away when you broke out of the pack, my guess is it was not from your bike.

Yeah kind of what I thought, but it was there when I was far from the pack at points to so that is making me guess that it is my motorcycle doing something. However I didn't hear it when around my house coming home.
I am investigating this tonight, but am looking for things to think about.
Thanks
I read a post on another board recently from a gal who was describing something quite similar to what you are talking about. Turned out her chrome horn cover was rubbing against her chrome crashbars. Chrome can be quite noisy when it rubs against something. However, since the noise went away when you were off by yourself I wouldn't worry about it unless you hear it again. As pointed out, when riding in a group you hear everyone's noises and it is almost impossible to tell them from your noises. I find a good fix is to get louder pipes!
I think it was probably the whinning of the open belt drive on the chopper. Just my thoughts.,L.B.

As stated that is what I thought, but it threw me.
I've ridden with hundreds of bikes of all brands makes and models and never came across this sound before. I am the only V star 1100 I have seen on the rode in this area. Most of them are 650 single riders or roadstars for yammy's
thanks
Just doing my homework to make sure I am not going to run into a problem somewhere.

No, no engine guard bars on mine and no horn cover. I did think that as well with other parts touching or rubbing, but what I check last night all is solid.
