My speedo stops working when it is hot outside.... Yup you read that right. Anyone else have that same problem? If you did what did you do to fix it? When the bike cools off the speedo works fine.... hmmmmm

I think our speedo runs on electronics. I believe the speed sensor is located somewhere under the seat behind the side covers.

When the speedo fails do you receive any 2 digit error codes? Our bike is designed to code via the digital readout on the odometer.

Nope no codes.... speedo just hangs at some speed and stays there.

Wish I had an answer for you..... when it comes to electronics it could be anything. May be the the given part fails at a specific temp and humidity level. Hate to say it but you may have to consult a Star dealer to see if they have encountered the issue before. Also, any dealer worth a grain of salt will call Yamaha to inquire if the issue has arisen previously. Though no code is coming up it doesn't mean that a code isn't registering. Have a Yami run the bike through diagnostics via the on-board code reader; they do have a manual that is specific to diagnosing these codes.

Well here it goes. I had the same problem with mine and they had to change out the whole speedo cluster. Good thing the bike was still covered cause when i looked at the repair slip my jaw dropped. I think it was something like $350 for the cluster and then 2 1/2 hours of labor. The dealer said they had one other bike with the same problem.

I have one answer for you and that guage is Analog, meaning it is a needle type and when the sun hits the face (if you look the black plastic in there with the number bubbles up) in the middle and stops the neddle from advancing and in my case it's around 50 mph where it hangs up! Once it is cool the plastic lays back down.
