    Hi All,

just joined here not too long ago and have lurked (and searched) for a bit.
I don't actually have a V-Star yet, but am shopping for one.
Found a nice on one Craigslist: 2007 Silverado with 8xxx miles on it.
Not being familiar with the V-star line yet, does anyone know of any quirks/anomalies/problems that I should particularly watch out for when buying a used V-Star (besides the obvious stuff you check out on all bikes)?

welcome to the family. nice looking bike, i can't help with price because i'm in Australia and pay rediculous prices. going by the pics it looks like a well kept bike, these bikes are a high revving bike which makes you think they should have a 6th gear but you soon get used to it. i have the 09 650 classic and love it, i do alot of 2-up riding at highway speeds with no problems at all. you can't go wrong with these bikes and couldn't recommend them enough.
good luck with what you decide.

Welcome from Georgia. The 650's are pretty solid bikes. Not too much to worry about on the newer ones. Just be sure he has been doing his maintenance and you should be good to go. When you get one, ride safe!

Good luck in your search.... the 650 is VERY hard to beat for price, performance and looks.

    Thanks guys!

I just spoke with the seller and when I asked him what it would take for him to describe the condition as "excellent" instead of very good. He said it really should have stated excellent. He's the first owner, bike is dealer maintained, just did the drive shaft oil change at 7xxxx miles (ahead of schedule) and all records/receipts in hand. Always stored inside, never down.
Going to check it out this weekend. I'll let you guys know what I find....

Just to say some more about myself, since this IS the "Intro" area of the forum.
I currently have an '07 Honda Rebel i bought in '08. Like most I rode motorbikes in college, stopped riding when I started a family etc etc. In '08 I decided it was time to get back in the saddle again, so I bought the Rebel to start small. 2 years, countless mods and 5000 miles later it's time to upgrade. IMHO the V-Star 650 is the only viable mid-size v-twin that's air-cooled. I think using liquid-cooling on a motorcycle is sacrilege. One's supposed to see the engine (and not have to worry about a waterpump like in a cage). Truth be told, even a drive shaft instead of chain or belt is pushing it for me, but I'm warming up to the idea. Especially the abscence of chain oil on the rear rim.

    OK, I bought it!
I'm now the owner of a pristine 2007 V-star Silverado 650. Went to look at it last night and everything the seller said in the ad and on the phone was true. And more. The bike was in BETTER shape than he led me to believe. Now THAT's a way to sell a bike!

Before I went to look at his (mine now), I actually met up with another seller in downtown Seattle who advertised his bike (2005 Classic) as "near perfect". Turned out his idea of perfect was very different from mine. Rust all over, badges missing, stock passenger seat gone and replaced with one that fell off, pitted Bub pipes... I'd have trouble calling it even "fair". I well, good lesson in evaluating an unknown bike anyway.

I'll put up some pic this weekend and start reading the forum even more!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in with advice.
