Not sure if this is the place to ask but, I own a 2004 V Star 650 Classic and was wondering how often you guys change out your air filter. A friend tells me not to worry about it. His guy at the shop appears to have told him not to worry about it.

When in doubt, change it out is a good rule if you're not sure about this.

If the filter is clean, you're wasting your $. However, if it's dirty it will compromise your horsepower and fuel economy. You can tell if it needs replacing by pulling off the airbox cover and looking at the pleats on the filter. If it's noticeably dirty and discoloured with debris lodged in the pleats, replace it. If the filter is still fairly white and undamaged, save your $ for another year!

Depending on the miles you put on, once every couple seasons should be more than adequate. If you're riding 20,000+ a year, you may want to do it every year.
